Joy

Glen discovered the joy of Graham Crackers yesterday. He was in love with them. Unfortunately mom found out that they had honey in them and so they were banished for a few months. On the positive side, he will get to have them again soon and it will be like discovering them again for the first time. Oh, the simple joys in life.
PS I found some without honey, yeah!

Sleepy Bum

All pictures of Glen are worthy of a blog post, but this picture NEEDS a post. How cute is that boy? I just love it when kids sleep with their bum sticking in the air. Its not so cute when an adult does it, I wouldn't take a picture of John sleeping like this, and I'd probably kill him if he took one of me, but Glen...I just couldn't resist.

This Kid

Ya, know, sometimes I love nap time when I get a little bit of quiet time to myself. Then there are other times when I just can't get enough of this cute thing. He is such a joy in my life. I remember as a pre-school teacher when there were rough times that had me ready to quit and then a child came up to give me a hug and say "I love you Miss Ruth, I hope you never leave." Aaah, I could have melted. How can you think about quitting with a child like that looking to you? It is the same with being a mom (except for the whole quitting part, you can't do that) On those tough days when I am frustrated and to tired to think I just have to hold or play with Glen for a few minutes and my world is grighter.
Children make this world such a wonderful place.

Ah, look at that. Playing with a hammer. Just like his Mamma.

Philosophical Thoughts

Strange as it may seem I love plastic spoons. I discovered this when I was about 14. I was eating ice cream with a perfect white plastic spoon. It was perfect because it's shape fit my mouth just right and it had just enough bend to it that when I pulled it down a bit it didn't break. So here I was eating this bowl of ice cream and I started to have really deep thoughts. It was the spoon.
Ever since then, every time I eat ice cream the spoon is very thought provoking. It's like, the answer to life, the universe, and everything isn't 42, it's 24. The computer was dyslexic. If I keep the spoon in my mouth long enough I start thinking about that statue, you know the one with the guy thinking? Except he isn't resting his head on his fist, he has a spoon in one had and a bowl of ice cream in the other. That is only the beginning.

This and other completely random posts brought to you by your local cat (always falling in love with the people who are allergic to them) and your friendly neighborhood poodle. (love the hair-do) Stay tuned for more after the break.

Exploring outside

Glen has loved being outside since he was a newborn. Last summer, even though Glen was only a few months old, if we spent to much time in side he would get fussy. So I would take him outside and he would watch clouds, trees, kids, he loved it. He still does, but this summer he gets to be a part of the playing. One of his favorite places to play is on the trampoline. Whether he is bouncing himself, bouncing with one of us, or just crawling around on the trampoline he thinks it is great. Today he chased a ball around and around the trampoline. He was having so much fun.
We also went out to the front yard to play and Glen discovered grass, rocks, a Frisbee, pine cones, leaves, and stairs. (He started climbing the stairs!)
The pine cone he was playing with was one we found on our walk today. It is gigantic! The pine cone was almost as big as Glen.
I am glad Glen loves to be outside so much, I do too. The park and the mountains are going to be much visited this year.

Failures and Losers

Grrr.... I am so irritated with the school system and others like them right now. I love school, I love volunteering at the school, but I hate some of the things they are teaching children now. All this stuff about everyone being a winner and no one fails is a load of crud. (excuse my language, I'm pretty worked up right now ;)
I intend to tech Glen and my other children that yes in deed you may lose and you may fail because that is part of life, but it is also important to work really hard. Teaching children about failure and letting them fail is essential to living and learning.
Say Glen loves soccer, so he joins a team. At the end of every game each team gets a prize because they don't want any one to feel bad. How long will it last before he joins a real team and he loses, then he feels bad an doesn't know how to deal with it. I think it is messing kids up not to let them fail and to teach them there is a consistence. If you don't do your work you get an F that is the consequence for not doing your work, why sugar coat it? (because kids are addicted to sugar, that's why)

Ok, I'm done, seriously. And so you have a sweet tid bit after that laod of soap here is a cute picture of Glen. He really wanted to eat this stalk of celery, he didn't get to far, but he sure tried. great for teething, huh?

Twins, Right?

Today Jeff was complaining that he will never have hair like Ryan Seacrest. I felt really bad for my poor friend Jeff and his very un-Ryan Seacrest hair, so I took it upon my self to help him feel better. Hee, Hee, I bet he will never complain about his hair again.
So they totally look like twins, right?

'Nuff Said

Eating is tiring work.
