The best date ever!

Valentine's Day was seriously hectic for John, more so then usual. He had to work until 10:00 pm, he had a huge project due the next day, and also a huge meeting with one of the College Dean's all looming. So we did something with the kids Sunday night and decided to move our date to another day. John had President's Day off and so we chose President's Day. The kids and I were really looking forward to having a day, a WHOLE day with daddy home. When he gets home at 10 pm every night they don't get much time with me, neither do I. To start out the day we all had breakfast together, Glen made daddy a pancake all by himself. Then John went shopping and I did a bit of house work. We met at John's mom's house at noon where his sister and mother would watch the kids. John took me to the restaurant we went to on our first date and gave me a yellow rose. Then he took me to a book store and told me to pick out tow books. I immediately picked out Jane Austen's complete novels in leather bound, beautiful isn't it? And looked around trying to decide between a dictionary or another classic novel. John brought me a white rose and I decided on another classic novel, The Inheritance, by Louisa May Alcott. (The dictionary I wanted was a lot of money) Then it was on to the movie. He knew I had been wanting to see Tangled with him and so that is the movie he took me too. There he gave me a red rose. Yellow, white, and red, are the color of roses he gave me the day he proposed. After the movie we went swimming with the boys. We all had so much fun. After we got home he gave me the itunes gift card. He knows how much I love music and especially itunes so I can get the song I want and not the whole CD. The whole date was a surprise and I loved every minute of it. Especially sharing a milk shake at lunch. I love how well my husband loves me and how hard he works to help me feel loved. He is such a wonderful man and I feel so blessed. Now I just need to finish the two books I am reading and then I can start on my new books...

Our journey begins

Febraury 16

It was a perfect morning to head out to sea in our viking ship and hunt dragons. On the way we were nearly attacked by the dreaded umpirates, but fast thinking on the part of Cap. Glen saved us from a terrible fate. We took down our first dragon, and then found ourselves being attacked by monkey pirates. They are just as terrible as they sound, part monkey, part man. First mate Benjamin held off the attack and saved the Capt. single-handedly. After all had quited down I continued to keep watch and spotted another dragon in the distance. But he was far off by the mountains and we didn't peruse. I have no fear of the dragons, or pirates with our heroic Captain Glen and his first mate Benjamin. I count myself lucky to accompany them on their journey, even as a lowly lookout/journal keeper.

Shiny!

http://fansofbeingamom.com/1050/being-a-mom/no-really-thank-you-2/
I wanted to share this link. I'm sure there are other moms, and even non-moms who will appreciate this article. It made me laugh, and I feel understood. Some days I feel like the only one to go through stuff like this, but articles like this remind me I am SO not alone, and neither are you. As mothers we all have, or will be there some day.

A humbling message

Today I was feeling sorry for myself. I missed my husband who is gone 12 hours a day 5 days a week and 8 hours two other days. My house was a mess because I had hurt my back and was unable to do anything for a week. My kids were grumpy, and dinner was going to be late. Man I sure felt like I had it hard. Then this song came on, and I just thought "Wow!" I mean, I have it easy. My husband comes home every night, some times late, but some times early. I have never been months without him as he sits is a cold jail. I have never worried that I would never see him alive again. I have never had to stand by helpless as he is beaten. My kids may be grumpy, but they are alive. I have never had to bury one and I know that they will live long healthy lives. My home may be messy, but I have a home. A home that is warm, that I have never and will never be driven from. I am so blessed, and tonight, I feel so humble and so grateful for all that I have. I am grateful for this reminder.

Birthday Dinner

Tonight my mom and dad took us out for John's birthday dinner. John loves Chinese so we tried anew buffet style. While we were there dad ate lots of squid. I loved watching my mom squirm watching dad eat the squid legs. Then I had the idea to get Glen to try some, he isn't a picky eater so I figured he would go for it. I knew it would gross her out, which made it even more fun :)
So we went to get some squid and Glen also wanted some chocolate pudding. Back at the table Glen took a bit of the squid, making Grammy squirm, then tried a bit of chocolate pudding. Then he decided to dip the squid in the pudding and liked it even more. He thought it was really funny that every time he took a bit Grammy would squeal and hide her face. Thanks for the food mom, and thanks for the laugh and memories Glen, Grammy won't forget this anytime soon, guaranteed.

Beautiful To Him - YW 2010 camp

His standard, not the world’s, is the true measure of our worth.
"Did I still Love him?" Ensign Feb. 2011
I love this song and also this other song by Hillary Weeks called Happily ever after
As women of the Church we are not like the world and cannot compare ourselves the the worlds standard. Some day beauty will fade even from the prettiest face, cloths will go out of style, and we will discover that it is what we do, how we act, what we say and who we are that makes us beautiful.
