Last Day!

As the sun sets on this last day of November I celebrate an ending and a beginning. It is the end of national blogging month, (I got sick of the daily blogs a day or two ago) and I am finally ready for the Christmas holiday to begin. It is kind of like death, death is not the end, it is merely another beginning. As I end this day, ready to drop from exhaustion I bid farewell until I again feel the urge to blog. (give me a day or two and I should be there.)

Fail

I'm a failure. I totally spaced blogging while I was in Cedar for Thanksgiving. I can't believe it. Does it count that I did extra on some days so that by the 30th of November I have 34, even though I missed a day? I can schedule post for tomorrow, can I schedule for the past? Is that cheating? I must not be addicted like John says, other wise I would not have forgotten. I think at home sometimes I just have nothing more exciting then blogging. Is that a pathetic existence or what? The most exciting thing in my life lately was Glens first teeth, yes another one is coming in close behind the first. At least I have one thing to look forward to every day, a new experience with Glen. How I love my boy, what joy he brings me. He is my sweet angel and I love him very much.

Reading Time

Today as I read the Thesaurus and the dictionary to Glen I came upon a word that has become my word of the day. The word is "Splediferous" I am going to use the word in a sentence at least once today and you lucky person, you, get to hear it. Frozen corn is splendiferous, it tastes like fresh corn on the cob, but it doesn't get stuck in your teeth. I would definitely say frozen corn has earned the splendiferous label.
Reading the dictionary to Glen will help his vocabulary and reading, right LaChelle?

Priorities

Let me tell you about two nightmares I had and then you will see where my priorities lie.

Last night I had a nightmare that John had this secret binder full of love notes from his ex-girlfriend. As I was reading these letters addressed to "My Teddy bear," I kept shaking my head and thinking "Oh dear, this can't be good." Now for Nightmare number two.

There was this woman and she was talking to me as we headed to Cedar City. She was telling me that I had a dirty house, this coming from someone with four dogs, six cats, and an odd number of ducks, chickens, and children running around. Plus, she never cleans up after them. She said her house was clean compared to mine. Then she started telling me about all of the awards she has won and things she has accomplished. She was super mom and I had a dirty house...NOOOOoooo

So, in my subconscious mind I guess the thought of having a dirty house is scarier then John keeping a binder of love notes. Not where I thought my priorities would lie. Good thing I don't ever have to worry about a secret binder full of love notes, I wish I could say the same about a dirty house.

Animal Game

I do not know if all those games every one plays are made up or you get them some where, but I am going to pretend you make them up so I do not feel so silly making this game up.
Glen and I were talking today about what kind of animal we would be if we were animals. We decided Glen would be a puppy because they are always forgiving and love unconditionally, and they are so darn cute.
If I were to choose the animal John would be I would give him the Lion. He is fiercly protective of Glen and I, but when you get on his good side he is very playful. Think Mufasa...
I wanted to say that I am a horse or something really cool like that, but when I am honest with myself nothing in my personality says hose except maybe my love of open spaces and freedom. So I had to choose between a cat or a Chiwawa, here is my reasoning; cats are opinionated and stubborn. Do not ask me why I think cats are opinionated and stubborn, they have just always struck me as being so. Now a Chiwawa is great. They are small, and cute. I choose a Chiwawa because my personality is a very (get ready for a huge run on sentance) "I'm not shaking because I'm cold I'm shaking because I'm excited, I'm alway happy to see you and can't give you enough love, and I want to chase my tail to get rid of all this energy," type of personality. *Gasp*
So here is the Game, you get to choose which animal fits your personality and discribe it in your post. You have to give at least three reasons, and no mythical animals please. You can also tell about your spouse and children if you want. I tag anyone who is reading this and has a blog. Have fun!

First Tooth

I was going to do a different post today, I had it all planned out in my head, but then something super exciting happened that I have to tell you about. Glen got his first tooth! He has been teething for a few days now, but the tooth finally came up today. I can tell he feels so much better.
You may say I am crazy for being this excited or tell me I have "New mom syndrome" but I am excited! I hope to always be this excited for my children. Every time the experience something new it is exciting because it means they are learning and growing and that is exciting.

Lessons From Children

Have you ever had the experience of trying to teach something to someone and end up learning more yourself? This happens to me a lot as I try to give talks or teach Primary. Most of my learning experiences come from one of two places, children or the scriptures. This experience involves children.
Glen is teething. he is so miserable. He has a fever, his nose is stuffed and/or runny, and he has waves of pain from the tooth that is coming up. Through this all he has tried to be cheerful, smiley, and playful. He talked quite a bit during church and played after we got home. I know he doesn't feel good, but he is being such a good sport about it.
I on the other hand am a bit, OK, a big baby when it comes to being sick or hurt. I complain a lot and want to lay in bed and be lazy. Glen has taught me that being sick isn't the end of the world. I can still be happy and smile. What a brave son we have! I love him so much.

Blind Obedience

John and I went on another Temple date. They are the best dates. As always I learned something new. I received an answer to a question I have been pondering for many years now. I was once told not to obey the prophet blindly. I needed to know why I was being told to do something. I disagreed, but could not give a good reply. This is the scripture that came to me today as I pondered in the temple, it is in the Book of Mormon.
Moses 5:6 "And after many days an angel of the Lord appeared unto Adam, saying: Why dost thou offer sacrifices unto the Lord? And Adam said unto him: I know not, save the Lord commanded me." That is my reply to any who would ask why I do the things I do or follow the Prophet. I know not, save the Lord commanded me.
I know that President Thomas S. Monson is a prophet of God, and as such he is God's mouth piece. I know that the Lord speaks through the modern day Prophet, whomever he may be. Because I know this I also know that any command given by the prophet is a command from the Lord. Glory be to God for providing us with a Prophet to speak His words to us and to guide us in these latter days!

Ramdom Sampler

Yes I spelled it that way on purpose.
Seven random things about me.
  1. I think ranch is the ultimate condiment and can be eaten on almost anything.
  2. I hate raisins in cookies, a cookie with raisins is ruined.
  3. My favorite fingernail is my left thumb.
  4. I know what this is a picture of (does that make me a geek?)
  5. Water is my favorite liquid beverage, sometimes I drink about 1/2 a gallon a day or more.
  6. John calls me RAM (hence the picture and misspelled title)
  7. I love the arch in my feet, it is what made me want to start ballet in the first place. Come on, I was like 10 years old.
Darn! I am out of numbers. Oh well, here is a bit of useless information that you may have never wanted to know about me. I bet Audrey (my best friend since like second grade) doesn't even know a lot of that.
...I wonder how much of this John knows?...
Well I hope you all enjoyed this little sneak peak into the crazy life of RAM.

A day in the life of Glen

Bed Time
I am hungry so mom puts me in my new chair. Then she makes me a bowl of cereal. I am so excited I wave my arms and laugh. The first bit is the best, but mom doesn't feed me fast enough so I tell her to hurry. Then the food is gone, but I want more so I cry. Mom says it is time for milk. Yeah! I am still so hungry, I cannot wait for more. Then mom gives me milk and I drink and drink until I am really full. Then it is time for stories, songs, prayer, and then bed. Yawn...good night.

Goodness! (this is mom) You would think by the way Glen screams in between the cereal and the milk that I was starving the poor child. I mean he just ate a bunch of cereal, and still attacks the milk like he hasn't eaten in days. At least he is growing healthy on all that food. And milk is cheap when it comes from me, right. I guess since this is the last pit stop for the night he has to fill up, really fill up. After a bowl (or two) of cereal and then some milk all is right in the world and Glen finally settles down for the night.

Food Storage Rocks!

IN a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?”

“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.”

“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; “we have got plenty of food at present.”

But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food, and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew:

It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.”

Learning from the Perfect Gardener

We have all had the experience of saying something stupid to a friend and feeling like we could just kick our self. Some times it is worse then just saying something stupid and we end up hurting someone. Thinking of that today I wrote this poem. I hope you like it.

Learning from the Perfect Gardener
We have all planted gardens,
And so we well know,
You cannot plant a seed,
And expect it just to grow.

When planting a garden or flower,
Each gardener does her part,
To remove the weeds that choke,
Right from the very start.

But we all are imperfect,
So I hope we both can see,
That when we turn to him,
He will answer every plea.

Neither life, nor friends are perfect. That is part of our test here on earth. But every day we can all become just a little more like Christ.

Dreams come true

Ready for a big ego massage, John?
Today John made one of my dreams come true. It is a silly one I admit, but I love him all the more for it. As I was washing dishes today he suddenly came in, grabbed my hand and started dancing with me. Cheese and Ham!
John is so wonderful. How grateful I am for this man who has my life so wonderful. Last night and this morning I was feeling very lugubrious and John was so good to me, as he always is. He was getting things for me, helping out with Glen, and he made sure to give me plenty of hugs. I thank the Lord daily for His mercy in leading me to John and giving me the opportunity to have such a wonderful husband and child.
I just went in the nursery a minute ago and I saw John rocking Glen to try and get him down for a nap, wow! What an amazing man. John is such a great husband and father.
One by one John is slowly making all of my silly, and not so silly dreams come true.

Surprises

Today during church the Primary children had their annual program. As a teacher I was called upon to help in the program. During one of the practices I discovered that it was going to be difficult to take care of Glen and do my job so I called a friend in the ward and asked her to help out. I figured she and her daughter would take Glen and play with him and keep him happy for me. What a pleasant surprise when he husband took Glen even before I needed him to and held him the whole meeting. I love to see Glen sleep, but it made my heart so happy to see this good man holding my son as he slept in his arms. What a wonderful gospel that teaches men and women to share in the caring and rearing of children. I love to see dads take part in there children's lives. Few things make me happier then to hear a wife tell me how her husband gets up with the kids, changes diapers, and helps out. I love this gospel and I love the teachings of the Lord. I love the hope and tenderness that comes with the gospel of Christ and the change it makes in our lives. And I love the Lord.

Offense

This is one of those worst of times posts...
I learned something in church today; offense is a double edged sword. One who takes offense is hurt and often one offended will hurt others. Sometimes those caught in the cross fire are innocent bystanders. I saw this to day and it makes me want even more to be slow to take offense. I do not want to hurt, nor do I want to hurt others. Perhaps this is the reason for the Lord's council to be slow to take offense.

Reverse Psychology

Today Jacob came down to hang out for a little while. John and i were eating a late dinner and asked him to try and get Glen to drink a little water. Glen hates bottles and didn't want the water because it was in bottle form. John said something about reverse psychology so Jacob told Glen not to drink the bottle. Well, Glen just proved that reverse psychology works on infants as well as children. He started drinking the bottle. We had a lot of fun with that and I started to think how my mom would try reverse psychology on me and I know I have tried it on kids before. Man, it really works, even on babies. Thanks Jacob, you made my blog.

For those of you less blog savvy "you made my blog" is the modern form of "you made my day."

Overcome

Have you ever been so overcome with emotion that you cannot find the words to describe how you feel? I feel like that when I look at John and think that he loves me. I cannot believe he asked me to marry him, but I am eternally grateful that he did. I have found more bliss with John and more love then I ever thought was possible. How I love him.
Anyone can tell you I am a very emotional person, the first three months of pregnancy were constant tears. However, until recently I have never cried tears of joy. The day my son was born was the first time I have ever been so happy I cried. My baby boy, this wonderful child is mine. This picture of John was taken right after Glen was born. John held Glen first and I hope you can see the love on John's face. He loves Glen so much. We both love Glen, we even love the little cone head he was born with. (But we are glad it is gone :)
Heavenly Father loves me so much that he has given me someone else to love. He has given me a glimpse of His love. I know that I love Glen a great deal, but my love is by no means perfect. I get frustrated when he cries and sometimes I am not patient with him as I aught to be. But I know that Heavenly Father's love is perfect. He never gets frustrated when we cry to Him, he always waits to give us comfort. His love is perfect and I hope that someday my love will be perfect.

RAM

Just a few random thoughts for the day.
Why is Meringue spelled so funny?
Why are the ones in this binary picture backwards?
Why do the English spell color colour?
If cars were shaped more like cows, would they be more efficient?
Would they make more pollutants?
Who defined efficient anyway?
Would chairs look different if our knees bent the other way?
And why the heck is a garnish supposed to be edible? Who eats them anyway?
This totally RAndoM message brought to you by our sponsors;
blogspot, tooth past, and tinfoil.
Stay tuned for more...

Temple Date

My favorite place to go on a date is to the temple. We had our first date at the temple, we were married in the temple, and I love it. Today for our date John and I went to the temple. Every time I attend the temple I learn something new. This is what I learned as I sat in a session today.
There is a lot of knowledge to gain in this life, but there are some things we will not learn until we are at the veil or have passed through the veil. There are some things we just won't learn in this life. Some pieces of knowledge are reserved for our Father to teach us. We can learn much from Him through prayer, but some things we will only learn at his knee. I don't know about you, but I am excited for the day when I can once again gather around our Father and learn from Him. In the mean time I will do all in my power to gain learning, knowledge and understanding in this life.

Somebody's hero

What more can I say then what this video already says? My mom is my hero. She was a single parent and did her best with us. I realize now as a mom myself what kind of sacrifices you make for your children. I just wish I would have understood that sooner so I could show more appreciation.

Fabulous Friday

This Friday my ward is having a Fabulous Friday activity. Most of the day Friday all of the women will be getting together to make crafts, talk, eat lunch, and have a clothing exchange. I am a big believer in not keeping things that there is no need for, keeps the junk level low, so I went through our cloths and sent some items over. A few cloths Glen had grown out of, a few cloths John had grown out of, a few cloths I had grown out of or no longer wear, and my wedding dress. Gasp! I know, how could I? Like I said, I am a BIG believer in getting rid of stuff I do not use. I do not wear my wedding dress any more so I took it to the clothing exchange in case someone else needs it. Now here is my problem, I do not want someone to say "Ooh, pretty," and take it home to play dress up. I want the dress to be taken to fill a need, not a desire. I wish there were a way to make sure it could happen, but since there is no way I can, I will just have to hope for the best. I made sure the lady receiving the cloths knew that if it is not taken that I will come back for and not to send it to D.I.
This is a true test of my resolve to not be a pack rat, ever. I may or may not wear the wedding dress again, I hope I can get to that size again after having a baby. Even if I did fit in the dress, when do you wear it again? I am not getting married again, and what do you do with a fancy white dress? You don't wear it to church the next day like prom, that's for sure.
OK, since my rambling is just trying to hide the fact I am sad to let my wedding dress go I am going to end this post and come to terms with it. That or else go cry on John's shoulder, one of the two.

Books

I was thinking this morning about the phrase "I can read you like a book."
If I were a book then what kind of book would I be? A picture book? Maybe a mystery, or could it be a horror story? What about a large print edition? Maybe I would be a comedy, or romance, a Book of Mormon, how about an adventure? What about an instruction manual?
If I chose, I would want to be a picture book about Christ. I want others to look at me and be able to clearly see Him. I want to be like that song that says "A doorway to His truth, a window to His love." I want to live my life so tohers can come to know Christ through me.

Judgment

I have been thinking lately about judging others. What got this started is the election and politics. We hear so much about the candidates, good and bad to try and sway our opinion of the person. Today I had a child tell me she isn't happy about Obama being president because he doesn't say the pledge of allegiance. This little girl has never met Obama, and I doubt her parents have either, but she trusts them and they told her Obama doesn't say the Pledge of Allegiance so she believes them. This hits me how important it is to not judge others. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, I do not know, but I do know that if I teach my son something he will believe me, truth or not. I cannot in clear conscience teach him something that is not true. Therefor I cannot judge.
This is perhaps one of the hardest things we are asked to do, judge not, but I know we can do it. Let me share an example with you, it is kind of silly I know, but bear with me. A few years back I learned that I get really irritated with other drivers that act stupid or dangerous. I started getting road rage. To fix this I decided to give other drives the benefit of the doubt. So what if they are going 20 over, maybe they are rushing home to get their child to the emergency room, maybe his wife is in labor, maybe he REALLY needs to use a bathroom. Then I say a little prayer and ask Heavenly Father to help them be safe, to protect those drivers around them, and to help them get where they need to be, especially if it is the bathroom.
Let us like wise stop listening to what we have heard, and give the next leader of our country the benefit of the doubt. Pray for him, pray for us all. Whether Obama is all we are told or not, we will need the prayers of all for the years ahead. They will only become increasingly harder, and I pray the Lord will bless us all, whoever we voted for.

Bella

Bella comes to play with us during the day while mom and dad work. She loves Glen and plays well with him, considering she is 10 months and Glen is four. She helps me pat his back while I burp him, and tries to cheer him up when he cries. Glen loves having her here to play because it means that he has a friend to play with and isn't bored as much. He loves to sit and watch her while she plays. They are becoming good friends and I am glad they get to play together.

More Halloween pictures

Here we are again with another excuse to dress up. John vetoed the shark costume and wanted me to make his costume this year.
So here he is in his Rubiks cube costume. He really had a lot of fun with this costume and was acting a bit like a kid he was so excited. (not that I mind, I felt like I had someone my own age to play with) John really enjoyed fitting his whole body in the Rubiks cube.

Oh my goodness, I look like such a cow is this picture!

After John disappeared into the box completely Glen couldn't figure out where he had gone. He kept looking at the box, he knew daddy was there, but where did he go?

Learning

"...seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom, seek learning even by study and also by faith;"
-Doctrine and Covenants 109:7
There are many different types of learning you can receive from books. Reading in the scriptures helps us learn of spiritual things, text books give us academic knowledge, and often from leisure books we can discover things about people and often ourselves. The amount of knowledge we have at our fingertips, especially with the internet, is limitless. There is more knowledge then any one person could ever gain in one lifetime, and because this store of knowledge is so great we have many opportunities to learn.
"And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
-Moroni 10:5
I have learned from experience that not only does the Holy Spirit teach me the truth of the Book of Mormon, but has also helped me to learn the truth of all things. I have had help on math tests, caring for my son, making decisions, learning Sign Language, and in all aspects of my life. I am grateful for the Comforter that is also the Teacher.

Wrestling

John loves to wrestle. I can never beat him, so the other day I asked him to please let me throw him to the ground and win once and a while. He said he would have to think about it.
At least I feel better when I think about the fact that Glen can beat John at wrestling. Glen must be getting pointers from Grandma because he put John in a head lock and wouldn't let go. Our son is so strong. He will be able to beat his daddy at wrestling hands down by the time he is six, of course that means I will be beaten by the time he is three. I better take advantage of his age while I still can!

Nap time

I don't have a whole lot of pictures of me with Glen, I do not like pictures right now. (I'm still self-consience after haveing a baby) But I really like to cuddle with Glen. I should probably take more pictures even if I do not like it because I want pictures of me with Glen, and who knows, maybe years down the road I won't care how I look. Does that ever happen for girls?
At least Glen is cute enough for the both of us.

Peter

This is Peter, he is Glens oldest boy cousin. Peter is a lot of fun, he loves to laugh and scaring him is the best way to make him laugh. This picture is from September when Glen had his baby blessing. Peter was all over the place, pulling himself up, pulling stuff off, exploring, and having fun.

cousin visit

Here John and Elijah were playing. I think John enjoyed this as much as Elijah.

My family came to visit a week or so ago, boy did we have fun. My nephew Elijah absolutely loves Glen. He is so helpful and protective. I remember when Glen was first born and my sister came up with her son. When we were at the WIC clinic picking something up Elijah demonstrated his protectiveness. A worker came to get me for my appointment and picked up Glen for me. As soon as she picked Glen up I heard Elijah complain. Shortly after sitting down I hear my sister yelling "Elijah, no!" and in come Elijah. He grabs the car seat and glares at the lady as if to say, "you want him, you have to deal with me," he wouldn't leave until I was finished and he was convinced that Glen was again safe.

I had quite a bit of fun with Elijah as well. After a spaghattie dinner Elijah was ready for a bath. I volunteered and we had fun. I gave him a Mohawk, put bubbles all over his hair, and played basket ball. Then we put Glen in and we had even more fun. Because I had put bubbles all over Elijah's hair Elijah thought Glen needed some bubbles in his hair so he took the bubbles off his head and put them onto Glen's. They were so cute together.

My sister Jennifer had fun with the kids too. She went outside to jump on the trampoline with Elijah and he decided Glen needed to jump as well. So he came in, grabbed Glen's hand and took him outside. (with his mom's help of course) Elijah helped Glens hand while they were jumping, he had to help Glen because Glen is to little to jump on his own. I smile at how helpful and sweet he is.
Here Jennifer is playing a game she used to play with my brother and me when we were little. She has the kids on her legs and is giving them and airplane ride. Elijah wanted to play with mommy and Glen so Jennifer is operating a Double Decker Plane here. Boy does that lady have talent.

Play time

Glen has tried so hard to learn to laugh and he is almost there. John is the only one who can make him laugh so far, of course he stops as soon as I pull out the camera. I just love watching John play with Glen and other kids as well. I have seen some dads who are so serious and never get down on the floor to play with their kids or roll around and I am grateful John is not one of those dads. I can tell he really enjoys playing with Glen. I am excited for when Glen starts to respond and play back a little bit, it will be so much fun for us all.

Cuddle time

Sometimes Glen is so busy he doesn't want to cuddle, other times he is so cuddly. Glen especially likes to cuddle up with his Daddy. Dad come home form work and Glen thinks there is nothing as important as daddy, eating, playing, everything else takes a back seat for a while. (At least until he remembers he is hungry.) Today Glen was laying on the floor happy as can be, until John walked by him without picking him up and then he started crying. He just couldn't believe daddy would walk right by and not pick him up. As soon as John picked him up he was happy again. He sure does love his daddy.

Halloween

(Not a video.)
My camera broke and only the video part works.
Bare with me until I can figure out how to fix it.

Every month John and I have an activity with our primary class. This year we had a Halloween party. I tried out a recipe LaChelle gave me called Kitty litter cake. (Leave it to LaChelle to find a cake like this.) The kids loved it, but it was even more fun to see the adults who could not get over the look. One mom said she would have to eat it with her eyes closed, another parent said it really looked like kitty litter and I had better not bring it any closer. The kids were braver then the parents and most of them tried the cake. I had a lot of fun making it and can't wait to try it again.

(Also not a video)

John and I dressed Glen up this year. I did not know if I was going to get Glen a costume or not, but when John and I were in the store I saw a costume that was so cute it made me squeal (literally) so John agreed we could buy it. I think Glen is so adorable in this little costume (I always think he is totally adorable though.) I grin from ear to ear thinking how he looked when he bounced in the costume, it would make the little tail wiggle back and forth. (more squeals)

(Video, really) (I Promise)
Because Glen cannot have candy yet, or anything for hat matter I let him play with the candy. It was great, he kept sticking it in his mouth and making a face that said gross, then he would do it again. I tried so hard to get him to smile, but he was to intent on figuring out what this new toy was. At least he was talking, "It makes sound, it's edible, and mom just gave it to me...so what is it?"

Nerd alert!

Can I just tell you what a nerd I am becoming? Being married to a geek will do that to you. You know your a nerd when you write your husband notes in binary, and understand them.
To make things worse I was thinking a minute ago that phones are amazing. With little more then a few seconds of delay everything I say is converted into binary, transferred over the "line," and then reconverted to my voice and words so you can hear and understand me. You would think I may feel smart, no, I feel...like a nerd, NOOOooooo...
