Grill Cake

So for my neighbors birthday I wanted to make a cake. He loves BBQing and grilling so...
Tada...

I really liked the way it turned out. I made the cake from scratch, adding sprinkles to the mix for a bit of a confetti look. Then I used black food coloring I found to make white frosting "silver." The grill marks on the cake, around the base and on the food are made from black licorice. I cut the licorice up small to stick it on the burgers and hot dogs. The hamburgers are chocolate covered graham crackers, the hot dogs and cheese are melted and shaped star bursts, and the shishka bob is just jelly fruit pieces stuck on a chop stick.
I had fun making this cake until the cheese bit me. I am so serious... I left the "cheese" too long to cool and it went hard. When I was trying to get it off the plate it poked me and I started bleeding. I had to get a band aid before I could finish making the cake. You have to work with the star bursts warm or they do not shape well, so it is between bleeding fingers or burning fingers. Be careful, this cake can be dangerous. =D
Over all it was a hit.

More RAM

Feeling slightly random tonight. May be the headache and being sick, I can't blame meds, I haven't taken anything. More than likely it is just me being random, again.
Here are some random thoughts I have had lately, I hope they are entertaining.

I want a goat.
I could start a salad restaurant since I have so many salad recipes.
Tofu can be cooked in a million different ways and I love it.
I miss cheese.
I want to run.
I really like these black stretchy pants.
Yoga.
Rutabaga!
Heartbreak.
Is reading the dictionary odd?
I taught Glen to say pulchritude!
Bad mother board.
"your mom..." is STILL the best come back. And I still have the sense of humor of a nine year old boy. =D
This randomness brought to you by Xanthosis, bibliophiles, and Elizabeth Darcy.
PS Does it mean I have been reading Jane Austen too much if I have to suppress the urge to curtsy to the bishop?

Wow

All I can say about this cake is WOW! It is the best looking cake I have ever made, and also the nastiest tasting. Let me explain....
My niece Hanna's birthday is the week after Easter and since the family would be all together (minus one brother) we planned her party for Easter weekend. I wanted to make a pretty cake for her to eat, but I also wanted to accommodate everyone's allergies. To give you an idea of the difficulty in this here is a list of the families allergies.
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Nuts
  • Sugar
  • Gluten
  • Beef
  • strawberries
  • Apples
  • cats
  • dogs
Granted half of those are not relevant in cakes, but have you ever made a cake that is sugar free, gluten free, egg free, milk free? I consider it a major achivement that it LOOKED like a cake. And about 50% of the people that tried it liked it so it wasn't a total failure. And Jennifer (My sister and Hannah's mom) did make the cake look so pretty.

Head start

Glen and I have decided that summer has taken long enough to get here. We are ready to play, and whether summer is ready or not here we come. We have started spending a large part of most days out side playing, longer walks, basket ball, parks, feeding the ducks and sidewalk chalk are all on our list of things to do each week. Glen is so in love with chalk. He has the biggest area to draw on with chalk, he can draw whatever he wants, and then we can wash the sidewalk, or wait for rain, and then we start all over again. Glen has also discovered that Benjamin's face works as well as the sidewalk.Benjamin was happy to be Glen's inspiration for a beautiful...frog?
I had left Glen and Benjamin outside to play while I ran inside to check dinner, when I came out Glen was saying "Benja, color." and Benjamin was laughing. I turns out that Glen drawing on him was so entertaining he went from crying when I left to laughing and happy. These tow boys, oh what joy they bring to my life. They are so wonderful, fun, loving, sweet, and good to each other. They love each other so much and I love them.
